“A successful developer must have the ability to act when others don’t act; see things others don’t see; and maintain the fine balance of sharing a special place without com-promising the beauty that makes it meaningful.”
Sam Scalise was raised in West Virginia in a tight-knit Italian family where the value of hard work and taking pride in your craft was instilled at a very young age as he grew up working in the restaurant his family owned.
Sam moved to Myrtle Beach from West Virginia, where he was already well established as a visionary businessman and builder. He was charmed by Myrtle Beach, immediately recognizing its potential, and began building single family homes in renowned Myrtle Beach neighborhoods like The Forest at Briarcliff Acres, Wachesaw Plantation and Pine Lakes. He quickly became known as the area’s “Quality Home Builder.”
Sam’s reputation grew as his company expanded to resort residential construction and sales. After Hurricane Hugo in1989, his company’s significant efforts helped revitalize the ocean-side communities of Surfside Beach and Garden City Beach, quickly returning them to thriving vacation retreats.
In the early 1990’s Sam recognized residential development opportunities in other areas such as The Hermitage in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, a beautiful water-front location with historical significance. Great care was taken in preserving the natural splendor of the land and artifacts of the well known plantation know for for its ghost Alice Flagg. The project received accolades and press coverage across the country including The Wall Street Journal.
Sam’s latest endeavor and the crowning jewel of Scalise Group’s development and management efforts is North Beach Plantation, a one-of-a-kind, 60 acre master-planned community that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to Highway 17. As Sam first walked the expansive site, his vision for a self-contained luxury residential resort took shape. Today, that plot of land has been transformed into the most successful real estate development along the Grand Strand, and is destined to be an East Coast landmark and Scalise legacy.
Sam is married to Cindy, his beautiful wife of 24 years, who is his business collaborator and confidant. He has four children, three sons and a daughter, and six grandchildren. He and Cindy live in Murrells Inlet with a majestic view of Garden City Beach from across the marsh, a daily reminder of his vast accomplishments and inspiration for the many more to come.
